Salone Del Mobile | Milano 2018

Another successful trip to Milan 2018, and now a mountain of exciting things to come in the furniture future for us! From fresh new partnerships to new season releases from our tried and tested supply chain, it is always a pleasure to be able to our walk the floor (over 90,000 steps to be exact!) and shake the hands of our favourite European furniture designers and manufacturers!

It was a crisp morning on the 17th April 2018, the smell of espresso filled the air (ok maybe not that romantic), but Prototype's team kicked off Salone Del Mobile DAY ONE taking in the sights of the fashion (and furniture) capital of the world - Milan. With over 300,000 visitors over a week at the world-renowned Salone Internazionale del Mobile.

Fashion, Art and Design types alike flock to Milan annually in April for the largest and most dynamic furniture exhibition. Originally as a vehicle for promoting Italian furniture and furnishings exports, the fair is the self-proclaimed international reference point for the furnishing and design sector.

MACKA Upholstered Armchair by Note Design Studio. Launched by Arrmet.

This product launch was something truly special – a collaboration between Stockholm-based studio Note and Italian manufacturer Arrmet.

“Who hasn’t, when close to the sea, picked up a stone and thrown it in a way that it bounces on the water surface? In Sweden, this game is called “kasta macka”, which oddly means to “throw a sandwich”. The perfect “macka” is a stone that is thin with soft rounded edges and this became our inspiration for the Macka collection. Our aim was to create a chair that looked like it had been shaped by the ocean for thousands of years.”

We adore this new style built for comfort and although it looks ideal for restaurant environments, we would love to see its beauty realized in education or corporate office spaces.

The Polish have perfected the classic Bentwood design that Michael Thonet designed in 1859. Now in 2018, Salone Del Mobile saw the launch of the ‘Vienna’ chair in an outdoor suitable timber, resistant up to 60 degrees c – nifty, right! We are excited to share the new styles that will be available in Weather-Resistant-Beech timber.

THE NEW NOLITA. Or better known as The TRIBECA.

Launched by one of the Italian heavy-weights Pedrali, we can never get enough of more outdoor suitable options! With a fresh palette and more streamlined design, summer 18/19 for the win!

FAMEG launches #kids

the adorable mini tables and chairs got our minds racing from hospitality “kid zones” to the corporate office’s childcare areas. Excited to add these new strings to our bow and expand the opportunities for supplying furniture of all shapes and sizes.

They’ve got SOUL

Another Pedrali addition, is the completely new collection - SOUL. In the designer's own words... "The concept of Soul stems from the idea of creating a chair using a blend of age-old methods and cutting-edge techniques, allowing tradition and innovation to evolve seamlessly." We think they've pretty much nailed it.
